The Sheep Detectives (Blu-ray Review)

Hugh Jackman is an extremely versatile actor. He plays action, adventure, drama, comedy everything. And in everything he does, he is spectacular. There are just some actors that you can't take your eyes off and he is one of them.

In 2025, he starred in an Amazon/MGM mystery adventure for the whole family. This film was entitled The Sheep Detectives. Now, if you have never seen it or if you streamed it and loved it, you can own it as it is coming to Blu-ray.

Synopsis: George (Hugh Jackman) is a shepherd who reads detective novels to his beloved sheep every night, assuming they can’t possibly understand. But when a mysterious incident disrupts life on the farm, the sheep realize they must become the detectives. As they follow the clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime-solvers.

The Sheep Detective is a very well-crafted mystery with just the right hint of comedy sprinkled in. Just like family favorites like Charlotte's Web or The Adventures of Milo and Otis the sheep discuss the mystery and what they will do without their shepherd. It is surprisingly better than I ever dreamed it would have been.

The Sheep Detective has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in Widescreen format. There are several audio tracks to choose from; there is an English Dolby Atmos TrueHD, a DTS-HD Master Audio in English and French. And there is the option for an English descriptive track and subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

When screening this film on Blu-ray, I was highly impressed with the sharpness of the picture. The colors are simply gorgeous. Okay, so you can tell these are CG sheep, but there are still tons better than some CG animals I have watched on film recently.

Now for bonus features. This is where the disc fails to meet expectations. There is not one bonus feature to be found of this disc. That is a huge disappointment for me. I love the bonus features on physical media.

Still with the disappointing lack of bonus features, The Sheep Detective is a wonderful family adventure with unforgettable characters. If you love physical media this would make a really nice addition to you home video library. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.
